B20 and WEC join forces to reimagine The Work We Want

When the global business community descends on São Paulo, Brazil, in late October, the World Employment Confederation and the voice of the HR services industry will have a starring role in and around the B20 Summit. WEC co-chaired the B20 Employment and Education Taskforce whose report not only outlines crucial recommendations to advance the future of work, but makes the all important link between basic education and the lifelong skills needed to navigate an evolving labour market.

On October 24-25,  representatives from the B20, the ‘sister’ group to the G20 that channel the recommendations of the global business community for consideration of the political leaders, will meet in São Paulo, Brazil. Even though the B20 Summit remains weeks away, the World Employment Confederation’s influence on the discussions has been felt behind the scenes.

The recently released B20 Employment and Education Taskforce report not only outlines crucial recommendations that advance the future of work, but makes the all important link between basic education and the lifelong skills needed to navigate the world of work in an evolving labour market.

“We must bring these recommendations to the table and address them, shape them into policy actions, and implement them into the world of work,” said Bettina Schaller, WEC President and Co-chair of the B20 taskforce. “The World Employment Confederation fully supports this report and looks forward to bringing them to life in Sao Paulo.”

The recommendations and policy actions made in the report derive from a months-long process of business community collaboration, and the World Employment Confederation’s fingerprints are found throughout.

The report highlights three thematic recommendations:

  • Prepare a Resilient & Productive Workforce for the Future of Work
  • Ensure a Diverse, Inclusive, and Adaptable Workforce.
  • Foster Innovation and Sustainable Growth

This report will help guide discussions during the summit, with the aim of the policies being considered by global leaders at the G20 Summit taking place in Rio De Janeiro in November.

The Work We Want prepares to shine under the Brazilian sun

The B20 Summit may be a two-day event, but the World Employment Confederation is making it the week that WEC wants!

Beginning with a meeting of WEC’s Board, it will continue with a regional summit dedicated to “The Work We Want” research on October 23rd. The Work We Want is a research project commissioned by the World Employment Confederation, in partnership with FT Longitude, shedding light on the challenge presented by the today’s fast-changing environment for how we work and how organisations manage talent.

Under the impulse of WEC Latam, WEC’s regional confederation in Latin America, the side-summit will explore the changing world of work and how the HR services industry is helping to shape it. From diversity and inclusion, to diverse forms of work and flexible work environments, including a special focus on women in leadership, the high-level event delves into the contemporary issues facing the labour market in the region and around the globe.

Keynote speakers and discussions with business leaders throughout Latin America will share how best to navigate a post-pandemic employment reality shaped by shifting demographics amid a global economy driven by green and digital transitions.

The week will conclude with the B20 Summit where several WEC representatives will also take part.
