The International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the World Employment Confederation (WEC) today released a new report entitled, Diverse forms of work in the platform economy.
The report provides detailed insights and information on how platform work has become an enduring feature of labour markets and a valuable source of income for those left out of traditional forms of employment.
This report aims to place the policy debate on platform work within the context of economic and social trends relating to flexibility and security.
It stresses the importance of considering the full implications for access to work and income, delivering important and much-needed services, and creating a level playing field for citizens and firms.
Following an extensive analysis of the diverse forms of platform work, this report concludes with recommendations to ensure this way of doing business and organising work contributes to the delivery of UN Sustainable Development Goals #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, #10: Reducing economic inequalities #5: Promoting employment for women, #9: Igniting innovative business models.
IOE Secretary-General Roberto Suarez Santos: “This report highlights the numerous benefits that platform work offers people excluded from the traditional labour market if it is accompanied by appropriate policies. The report provides concrete recommendations that advance economic growth, decent work, and inclusion.”
WEC President Bettina Schaller: “The emergence of platform work is part of bigger economic and social transformations that are impacting labour markets across the world. Our recommendations offer relevant and useful information and data to help shape the policy approaches that will maximize benefits and manage risks for workers, citizens and society.”
