WEC President Visits Cairo to Support Egypt’s Staffing Industry

Bettina Schaller, President of the World Employment Confederation, recently concluded a significant two-day visit to Cairo, meetings with key stakeholders for Egypt’s staffing industry, including the International Labour Organisation regional office and the Egyptian Minister of Labour. These engagements underscore WEC’s commitment to supporting the development of the staffing industry in Egypt and ensuring it is well-prepared for the future of work.

On 13 May, Bettina Schaller, President of the World Employment Confederation, arrived in Egypt to celebrate the “10 years of HR” in the country. During an event organised by the American Chamber of Commerce, she shared insights on the evolving nature of work and the skills that will be essential to succeed in this new world by 2030. The event attracted a large audience of HR professionals, emphasising the importance of collaborating with HR services in developing the future workforce.

Bettina Schaller passionately emphasized the pivotal role of cooperation among all stakeholders within the employment ecosystem to embrace the swiftly evolving world of work. She drew upon the findings of WEC’s recent research project, “The Work We Want,” which conclusively affirms the growing demand for diverse forms of work.

Promoting international labour standards

On the second day, Bettina Schaller met with Eric Oechslin, Director of the International Labour Organisation’s North Africa office, to discuss joint efforts to improve employment standards in the region. They also talked about the support needed to ensure ratification of the Convention 181 on private employment services in Egypt.

The potential ratification of ILO Convention 181 was also a topic of discussion with H.E. Mr. Hassan Shahata, Egyptian Minister of Labour. In her meeting with the Minister, WEC’s President highlighted WEC’s global expertise and the need for high-quality standards within the industry. Minister Shahata expressed the Ministry’s commitment to quickly meet global employment standards and the importance of Convention 181 for workforce mobility. Their dialogue also delved into the evolution of the Egyptian labour market and the country’s preparedness to supply skilled labour internationally, concluding with a mutual understanding of the need for enhanced cooperation in the future.

Such engagements by WEC’s leadership demonstrate the organisation’s commitment to fostering the sustainable growth of the staffing industry worldwide and ensuring its preparedness to offer innovative solutions for the future of work.
